Septic tanks are typically comprised of single or double compartment tanks of concrete, metal, or plastic. At the top of these compartments there is a lid that provides access for regular pump-outs by a certified technician. The lid is typically buried anywhere from 6 inches to 3 feet below the surface. The soil covering the lid is removed to grant access to the technician. To prevent serious injury homeowner’s should let the technician remove the lid as septic tanks can contain deadly gases.
